AF Corse's #83 Ferrari 499P takes a class win in the Imola 6 Hours

22 April 2024

Position 1 among the private teams #83

AF Corse's #83 Ferrari 499P took its first win of the season in the FIA World Cup for Hypercar Teams in the Imola 6 Hours, home race of the FIA World Endurance Championship for the Italian team.

Race Summary

Starting from the front row of the grid, the 499P number 83 stayed in the leading positions until Race Direction issued it with a drive-through for an infringement during the Full Course Yellow procedure. The crew composed by Robert Kubica, Robert Shwartzman and Yifei Ye thus slipped to eighth overall.

Towards the middle of the race, rain hit the Imola circuit, with the Italian team trying to delay the changeover to wet tyres as long as possible. Once the rainfall ceased, track conditions quickly improved, allowing the team to put back on slick tires in the closing stages of the race.

The Prancing Horse car maintained the eighth place overall, keeping the lead in the independent team class, which saw Kubica, Shwartzman and Ye celebrate on the top step of the podium. They are now just one point off the top of the standings.

The next round of the FIA WEC is scheduled for the weekend of 11 May at the Belgian circuit of Spa-Francorchamps.
